Keith Murphy, (L) had a comfortable race
riding in the C event, his first outing of the year,
and used the race more for training purposes.
At 30 miles distance, the race was a little on the
short side for C cats. Keith finished safely in the
bunch, which stayed together for the entire race.
Veteran Tony Murphy (R) competed, in the vets and junior
category, and Tony finished within the main bunch having missed
the break that gat away on the first lap of the 40 mile event.
Impressive start to the season for Crannog Ireland riders

North Monaghan CC Crannog Ireland had their full squad of riders competing in their first races of 2004, on Sunday last, in Bohermeen, Co Meath.

L-R Conor Murphy, Paul McMahon, Brian Reynolds, Paul Mulligan,
Michael Holland, Tony Murphy, Mark Murphy (manager), and Keith Murphy.

Conor Murphy took 2nd place in the senior A race with his colleague, Paul Mulligan coming in close behind in 8th place in the same event. Both riders were dominant from the start of the 60-mile event, being part of an early break, which formed on the second of 6 laps and stayed away until the finish.
Murphy began to test the
opposition on the 4th
and 5th laps going to the
front and stringing out the
group, and it was on the
final lap where he made
the decisive move,
attacking to get away
from the group. The
eventual winner, Column Bracken, came with him and the two held a gap to the line, with Bracken out sprinting, the Crannog Ireland, rider. Bracken has more
races in his legs and was thus sharper at the end.
Conor was satisfied with his 1st performance of the year, and to have his first race of the season out of the way.
Paul Mulligan was suffering from a kidney infection on the day, and his 8thth place was an impressive result for the Omagh rider.

The club had riders competing
in all categories at
Bohermeen on Sunday.
Paul McMahon notched up
a 4th place in the B race,
riding very strongly over
the 50 miles. A decisive break
had gone clear by the
second lap and it was on
the 4th lap that McMahon
bridged across to join the
leaders, and was in contention
for the final gallop to the line. An encouraging result for the Omagh rider, who with
a few more high placings will see himself promoted to the senior a category.

Michael Holland, had a good race also riding this year as a senior B, and finished in the main bunch and was contesting the bunch sprint at the end of the race.

So a good start to the season for Crannog Ireland CC, with a 2nd, a 4th, and a 9th place and all of our riders finishing their events.
